Have you ever thought of getting some milking goats?

I am in the middle of a crazy after Christmas cleaning spree, but I just want to write a little post about something "Santa" put in my stocking...

I am seriously chewing on the idea...For one my son can not have cow's milk and for two think of all the wonderful cheeses we could make and three raw goats milk is just about the healthiest thing for you.

Just a few Pygmy goats I am thinking...the city let's us have livestock under 650lbs as long as our lot is over 10,000 square feet...I know...I still live in the wild, wild, west!

Well, I have to go and continue cleaning up this little farm, work on a design board for a new client, oh and take care of a three year old too, then drive the soccer carpool!

Let me know what you think of getting some goats.  Do you know any tips?  I'd love to hear them!

  2. Caroline - It was fun to visit with you at the tour de coup! thanks for the tour of your yard - your creativity inspires me to get my projects done!! AND I love your blog site! I say
GO FOR THE GOATS, life is meant to be lived!!!!! I just got 3 baby silky chicks (they look like cotton balls on legs) which will bring the hen count at my place to 6 (at least I hope they are all hens!). When my husband suggested getting the chicks and I thought that's all I need- what a crazy idea - then I thought what the heck! Since my kids are grown and out on their own life just seems to fly by and there is so much I want to do and so many things I want to create. I have come to value each and every moment of each and every day and I realize if I don't do things now (I am 52 this year) opportunities and chances will slip on by way too quickly....
    God Bless - Anne

  3. 2 giant thumbs up from your neighbors to the north! ESPECIALLY if that means you would continue to have a surplus of that delicious cheese!

  7. We LOVE our goats....and if you want to read another book that will hook your heart even more...read Goat Song by Kessler.

Our goats are full size Nubians and my husband is our family Chevre' maker. There are many good breeders in the state who have the smaller size goats. I say GO FOR IT! You'll never regret it...except you need 2 :-) and then you'll want another one....and then another.... We have 4 does and soon 2 bucklings will join our farm....and then mid-April we'll have the first of our Nubians kid. Can hardly wait.

LOVE your blog, by the way!

    xoxo lylah
