Range Hood Dreaming

I have asked my husband to let me get a hood like this one...
Aren't the scallops just pure whimsy?

or maybe this...

But to no avail.
Then I tried...
 what about a blackboard hood?

Or something like this with wood and a faux finish on top...
then we would have some extra money
to do a wall of white carrara marble...dream.

We like this one...

and this one too...

But the catch is both of these range hoods cost $2000 just for the covers,
it doesn't even include the fan mechanism, that is still at least $500 more.

So what is an Interior Design/Urban Farmer, who is married to a Banker/cost benefit analysis expert to do?
I need to get creative and search the city.

I'll let you know what I come up with but here is my inspiration.

Have a great weekend!

  1. You have to see how Mikey made his hood at the blog Shabby French Cottage. http://www.shabbyfrenchcottage.com/2011/08/cottage-chic-vent-hood-tutorial.html
Here is the link, it is quite nice and he had a friend make it out of wood.

  2. Find a fabulous sheet metal artist close by and barter them for an amazing one of a kind hood for your kitchen and you supply them with jam, eggs and maybe a room "restyling".

Best of luck...I do love the one with the marble wall.

    Blessings Kelsie

PS: how is that rewiring going?

  3. They are all gorgeous. A hood can really finish the look of the room, but like you I kept choosing the most expensive ones! In the end I was happy with the style and the price.

  4. They are all beautiful. I want to add one and I am loving the last photo.

  5. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Love the metal mixed in with all the wood surfaces.

  6. Hey Car, I know someone who might be able to make you a hood. He just graduated from Rhode Island School of Design and I think he is back in AZ. He is fantastically talented!

  7. I don't know if I've ever seen scalloped edges on a range hood. Sweet! A nice post; thanks for sharing your inspiration.

  8. I couldn't believe what range hoods cost when we went searching when remodeling our kitchen. Love the one with the blackboard how pratical, can't wait to see what you come up with. Enjoy your Sunday!

  9. I think I could live with some of those kitchens!

  10. Those scalloped hoods are adorable! I've never seen anything like that.
Can't wait to see what you decide!

  11. Caroline! I love your inspiration. I was going to say that it is my favorite of all the range hoods! *I hope you use copper* ;P

  12. Love these! If I could redo my whole kitchen, I'd include a range hood like the one with the metal and wood - fantastic!
    Dreaming big!

  13. Caroline - they are all lovely. You just need to win the lottery:) Keep looking, I know that you will find a perfect fit somewhere!

  14. Hi!
I just found you the other day & don't think I had the time to comment!
    First...love the header.
    Second...LOVE me a WHITE kitchen! ;)
Third...those pic's of you in the apron are just too cute!

Have a Blessed day in the city!

  15. Hi, I'm having my first blog hop this weekend. I would love for you to link up some projects. I think my readers here would really enjoy looking at your beautiful American Farmhouse.
    Hope you can make it.

  16. I'm sure you'll come up with something fabulous. I think I've seen some really nice ones at IKEA maybe that can be a starting point.

  17. How exciting, ea kitchen remodel! Love the post of the video making applesauce! You are so darling! xo

  18. Merci de ton compliment,je découvre ainsi ton blog.

    Bonjour de France

  19. You're very creative... and how hard can a cover be, right? I'd start strolling down the isles of Lowe's or Home Depot and look at their construction materials and brainstorm ideas. Then your's will be unique and we'll all drool over it, I'm sure! And since we're going to overhaul our kitchen in a year or so, I may just have to redo my hood as well. It's nice, but certainly not a focal point.

Can't wait to see what you come up with!!

  20. I have an economic way to accomplish what you are looking for. Contact me and I will share with you our idea. I am a local general contractor and huge fan of great design, It's challenges like this one that I love, thanks. desertmetropolitan@gmail.com
