Range Hood Dreaming

I have asked my husband to let me get a hood like this one...
Aren't the scallops just pure whimsy?

or maybe this...

But to no avail.
Then I tried...
 what about a blackboard hood?

Or something like this with wood and a faux finish on top...
then we would have some extra money
to do a wall of white carrara marble...dream.

We like this one...

and this one too...

But the catch is both of these range hoods cost $2000 just for the covers,
it doesn't even include the fan mechanism, that is still at least $500 more.

So what is an Interior Design/Urban Farmer, who is married to a Banker/cost benefit analysis expert to do?
I need to get creative and search the city.

I'll let you know what I come up with but here is my inspiration.

Have a great weekend!

  1. You have to see how Mikey made his hood at the blog Shabby French Cottage. http://www.shabbyfrenchcottage.com/2011/08/cottage-chic-vent-hood-tutorial.html
Here is the link, it is quite nice and he had a friend make it out of wood.

  2. Find a fabulous sheet metal artist close by and barter them for an amazing one of a kind hood for your kitchen and you supply them with jam, eggs and maybe a room "restyling".

Best of luck...I do love the one with the marble wall.

PS: how is that rewiring going?

  3. They are all gorgeous. A hood can really finish the look of the room, but like you I kept choosing the most expensive ones! In the end I was happy with the style and the price.

  6. Hey Car, I know someone who might be able to make you a hood. He just graduated from Rhode Island School of Design and I think he is back in AZ. He is fantastically talented!

  19. You're very creative... and how hard can a cover be, right? I'd start strolling down the isles of Lowe's or Home Depot and look at their construction materials and brainstorm ideas. Then your's will be unique and we'll all drool over it, I'm sure! And since we're going to overhaul our kitchen in a year or so, I may just have to redo my hood as well. It's nice, but certainly not a focal point.

Can't wait to see what you come up with!!
